Some gardeners find it helpful to make a drill or shallow trench in the compost with a pencil or bamboo cane for sowing small seeds. With large seeds, simply press them into the surface at the recommended spacing. Don't sow too thickly, as you'll struggle to prick out the seedlings later. Cover with a sprinkling of vermiculite or compost, very gently water with a fine rose, and seal in a propagator or enclosed tray.
