Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a sudden impairment of kidney function that develops within a short period of time. It affects the kidneys’ ability to filter toxins, balance body fluids, and regulate essential electrolytes. AKI can occur due to dehydration, serious infections, reduced blood supply to the kidneys, use of certain medications, or urinary tract obstruction. Common symptoms include decreased urine output, body swelling, fatigue, nausea, confusion, and shortness of breath, though early stages may not show clear signs. Quick diagnosis and appropriate treatment are vital, as AKI is often reversible when managed promptly.
