When you are planning to take a trip and you start with the Uzbekistan e- visa, you must be ready to see more than just the buildings; you are going to experience a culinary treat that will continue to linger in your mind even after you are gone.

Here are the Traditional Uzbek Cuisine You Have to Try

1. Plov – The King of Uzbek Dishes

Plov, or osh as it is known, is not just a meal: it is a tradition and a communal thing. Cooked in huge cauldrons known as kazan, it is prepared using rice, lamb, onions, carrots and spices. Every part has got its variant: the rich, oily plov of Tashkent and the lighter one of Samarkand. You cannot leave Uzbekistan without having tried this national dish which is normally accompanied by fresh salad and green tea.

2. Lagman -Noodles with a Central Asian twist

Lagman combines a meat and vegetable noodle soup stir-fried. It has its roots in Uyghur influences and it is now a staple in Uzbek households. The sticky hand-wrenched noodles, soft beef, bell pepper, tomatoes, and garlic blend into a satisfying dish which is both spicy and hearty.

3. Samsa -Uzbekistan Crispy Delight.

The Uzbek variant of samosa is called Samsa, and it is a baked pastry (stuffed with minced lamb or beef, onions, and pumpkin). Sausa, in comparison to its Indian counterpart, is baked in a clay oven known as tandoor, which provides it with a crisp golden crust and a smoky taste. It can be found in the bazaars and even on the roadside stalls and as such it is the easiest snack to have as one goes about exploring Bukhara and Khiva.

4. Shashlik -The Best Uzbek Barbecue.

There is no Uzbek banquet that is incomplete without shashlik, cubes of marinated meat being grilled using open fires. Lamb, chicken or beef, either way, it is full of smoky taste and tender succulence with each bite. Common accompaniments are sliced raw onion and splash of vinegar. Combine it with non (Uzbek bread) and local salad to make a good meal.

5. Manti – Steamed Pockets of Joy

Manti are huge steamed dumplings stuffed with spiced minced meat, onions and, at times, potatoes. They are comforting and served with yogurt or sour cream; it is particularly pleasant in chilly evenings in the Uzbek mountains. Manti are often prepared during family celebrations and festivals, and this aspect of Uzbek culture reflects their unity and generosity.

6. Non - The Sacred Bread of Uzbekistan.

Non is a necessity in the Uzbek culture and is holy. It’s never served upside down. Non of all varieties are baked in clay ovens, and served with every meal, where they carry up soups and stews. You are hungry just by the smell of it.

7. Chuchvara – The Uzbek Ravioli

Chuchvara are small dumplings that are similar to the Italian ravioli with the touch of Central Asian food. These dumplings are comforting on cold Uzbek evenings filled with minced meat and served with a tasty broth or topped with sour cream. They are particularly better in the winter and are served among family members and friends.

8. Shurpa – The Soul‑Warming Soup

Shurpa is a warm hearty soup consisting of lamb, potato, carrot, and herbs. Braised to perfection, the flavours are a great combination. The shurpa is the comforting bowl of food that you will get as soon as you walk through either the old streets of Samarkand or unwind in the Fergana Valley.

9. A sweet ending between Halva and Sumalak.

Halva, which is a sesame, flour, or nut melt-in-your-mouth dessert, is appreciated by dessert lovers, and Sumalak, a dessert of sprouted wheat that is a source of happiness and renewal, is a springtime delicacy. Such sweets are centuries-old customs and celebration happiness.

10. Uzbek Tea Culture The Ideal Companion.

The Uzbek hospitality revolves around green tea. The pot is always prepared inside the houses or tea houses. Tea is taken in small cups referred to as piyola and served alongside sweets, fruits or nuts. It is an overture of friendship, respect and unity.
