The United States, China, and South Korea are the dominant forces, each leveraging distinct advantages in feedstock access, industrial policy, and technological innovation. The U.S. maintains leadership in R&D leadership and sustainable chemistry, with federal initiatives such as the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and DOE’s Advanced Manufacturing Office supporting the development of bio-based BDO and low-carbon PTMEG.
