Spotify is finally rolling out lossless HD audio for its Premium subscribers, bringing higher-quality music streaming to millions of users. The feature, first announced in 2021, streams tracks in FLAC format at up to 24-bit/44.1kHz, preserving the full detail of the original recordings.

The rollout is gradual, reaching over 50 markets by October 2025. Premium users in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Australia, Japan, Netherlands, Sweden, and other countries are already receiving notifications in the app. The upgrade is not available to free, ad-supported accounts.

Previously, Spotify offered audio using the AAC codec at 320 kbps. Lossless streaming consumes more bandwidth and storage, but provides a richer listening experience. Spotify recommends using wired headphones or speakers over Wi-Fi, as Bluetooth currently compresses the audio.

How to Enable Lossless Audio

Open the Spotify app and tap your profile icon.

Go to Settings → Media Quality.

Choose where to enable Lossless: Wi-Fi, cellular, or downloads.

A Lossless indicator will appear in the Now Playing bar or via Spotify Connect once activated.

Device Compatibility

Lossless audio works on mobile, desktop, and tablet apps, as well as many Spotify Connect-enabled devices from brands like Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, Denon, and Yamaha. Additional support for devices such as Sonos and Amazon is expected in October.
